About this product
The alpha phase brings density and abrasion resistance, the beta phase brings resistance to alkali vapour; the composition holding both gives a balanced answer for glass furnace superstructure. It is preferred where the material does not touch the glass directly but alkali vapour condenses — port necks, upper walls and arch springers.
Material
Alpha–beta alumina and jargal blocks are fused cast from high-purity alumina. Because they contain no zirconia, they do not seed the melt with zircon and carry a very low risk of stones and blisters in the finished glass. They are the preferred lining for superstructure, forehearth channels and feeder zones, particularly in container and flat glass production.
Applications
- Port necks and upper walls
- Arch springer blocks
- Upper regenerator zone
