About this product
In aluminium casting the most expensive stoppage is metal freezing onto the hardware: every clean-out costs both time and material. Fused silica based hardware is not wetted by molten aluminium and largely prevents that build-up. We produce launders, distributors, filter housings and level control pieces to the customer line drawing.
Material
Fused silica is produced by melting high-purity quartz and letting it solidify in an amorphous state. Its coefficient of thermal expansion is close to zero, so it does not crack under rapid heating or cooling — which makes it ideal for suspended roof blocks, crown components and any part exposed to frequent thermal cycling. Its non-wetting behaviour against molten aluminium and zinc has also made it common in foundries.
Applications
- Molten metal transfer launders
- Filter housings and distributors
- Continuous casting line parts
