About this product
The weak point of a suspended roof is that bricks move relative to each other and to the hanger steel; a material that expands jams and breaks there. Fused silica solves that at the source: it barely grows on heating, so the suspension stays as it was on day one. It is particularly advantageous on channel covers and in zones stopped and restarted often.
Material
Fused silica is produced by melting high-purity quartz and letting it solidify in an amorphous state. Its coefficient of thermal expansion is close to zero, so it does not crack under rapid heating or cooling — which makes it ideal for suspended roof blocks, crown components and any part exposed to frequent thermal cycling. Its non-wetting behaviour against molten aluminium and zinc has also made it common in foundries.
