Silica

The classic material for glass furnace crowns and arches

Silica brick is the traditional material of glass furnace crowns, arches and the upper regenerator, because it stays volume-stable at temperature and does not creep under its own weight. Once at working temperature its expansion effectively stops, so arch geometry holds for the whole campaign. It is a class that demands a controlled heating and cooling schedule.
